The 1 oz Silver Libertad Brilliant Uncirculated coin was first introduced in 1982 and has been an annual release ever since. Produced at La Casa de Moneda de México, the oldest mint in North America, the series features varying mintages each year, often lower than other bullion coins, making them highly collectible. The obverse of the coin displays Mexico’s coat of arms, which was updated in 2000 to include historical coats of arms as well. The reverse of the coin depicts a poignant legend of two star-crossed lovers, princess Iztaccíhuatl and warrior Popocatépetl, transformed into volcanoes by the Aztec gods to be united forever. The Angel of Victory on the reverse was updated in 1996 to showcase a three-quarter side profile. Coins produced from 1982 to 1995 feature the old angel design.
