Description
Baltimore, MD- American Bank $1 Dec. 1, 1863 G2a, Shank 5.2.1 PCGS Banknote Choice Very Fine 35
This is a superbly crafted issued note engraved by the National Banknote Company. It is extremely popular with collectors and features a centrally placed vignette of a variety of ships in the harbor. The vignettes are enclosed within a pattern of micro-counters using patent devices made for this firm by Cyrus Durand. A modicum of light folds accounts for the grade. Vivid colors and boldly printed devices add to the beauty of this design. Red “0” stamp near top center. Remainders of this design are plentiful, but issued Civil War era notes are actually rather scarce.
